Alumni 2015/2016

EMMA Federica

My full name is Federica Emma and I’m originally from Sicily, Catania. I received the Bachelor Degree in Politics and International Relations from the University of Catania in 2011, and continued at the University of Bologna to pursue the Master’s Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, specializing in European studies. My master’s research focuses on EU environmental cooperation towards Mediterranean Third Countries for the achievement of sustainable development. After my graduation in 2014, I joined the Delegation of the EU in Rome for a five-months internship. Being part of the UN section, I was involved in helping the organization to develop its strategies and actions within the framework of FAO's work. One of the main tasks was to facilitate the policy dialogue with all the actors and stakeholders involved and to write flash Reports for the Directorates involved within the European Commission. The subsequent internship at FAO has provided a great entry point in understanding both the structure of FAO and its mission and objectives; it also helped me in acquiring a comprehensive and fully overview of the structure and approaches of FAO, as well as of its main areas of work and strategical objectives. Thanks to these experience I deepened my knowledge in the field of development cooperation and humanitarian aid affairs. These activities are highly stimulating my interest in those fields which I would like to further develop. I still need the right tools to accomplish my goals, therefore in mid-term goals I want to gain a wide array of skills across the field of development. My long term goals are towards making a positive impact for the good of societies, working on matters of governance, policy, and advocacy. In this regard MESCI provides precious opportunities to acquire expertise in the field of development processes, projects, and programmes. This Master will surely contribute to further improve my social and professional growth, giving me the possibility to learn and to enrich my theoretical background.
