PATTY Shannon
I am an American, from the state of Texas. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science from Brigham Young University. My initial interest in development issues came through an original research opportunity during my undergrad on the changing food sources, dietary, and social habits resulting from westernization in a rural African community. After completing my degree I interned at Globus Relief, an organization that distributes medical supplies and equipment to developing nations. I worked on a vitamin supplement program for women and children in Western Africa. In an effort to support community development domestically, I worked as a volunteer kitchen assistant with the Food and Care Coalition, a local shelter and soup kitchen dedicated to poverty alleviation by encouraging clients to give back to the community for the services they have received through service. My interest in MESCI is for a multi-dimensional understanding of development. I hope to continue to research and develop programs for poverty alleviation.
