BETIA-MENDOZA CHRISTINE JOYCE

After completion of her second year in MESCI under the Mundus Urbano program, Kit returned to her government post in the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) - Calabarzon Region. In 2013 and 2014, she spearheaded the updating of the regional and provincial level development plans mainstreamed with disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation components; became instrumental in the approval of a UNDP project on migration and development; and introduced more efficient online working platforms in the office. Kit was promoted twice in a span of 1.5 years.

In March 2015, she left NEDA as Supervising Economic Development Specialist under the Policy and Plan Formulation Division and realized her dream to teach future planners and development workers. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the University of the Philippines Los Baños - College of Human Ecology. Among the subjects she teaches are Environmental Economics, Environmental Project Planning and Administration and Land Use Planning.

The MESCI program and experiences in Rome had been vital for her in executing multicultural and interdisciplinary work and research activities in the global South specifically in the Philippines.
