VALENCIA Evelyn

Hello! My name is Valencia, one of the Mundus Urbano students in MESCI. I grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia. I got interested in urban studies and economics in the course of my work. Prior to joining MESCI, I worked for almost six years for an engineering research institute in Singapore. I was a project manager for urban water and sanitation projects located in Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Indonesia.
I observe that urban projects are often rife with complexities and sometimes met with conflicting interests. Subsequently, economics, finance, politics, and sociology became increasingly fascinating to me. So, I thought brushing up my knowledge in the field of humanities would complement my training in environmental engineering and equip me better for a career in urban infrastructure development.
For my future career, water and environment sector would still be my top priority, but I also find affordable housing increasingly an important issue for many people. I am particularly interested to gain better understanding of urban economics and learn the tools in assessing project viability and risks. In addition, application of the game theory is also an exciting field.
I thoroughly enjoyed my first year in Mundus Urbano, because of the exchanges with many different people, cultures, and backgrounds. I look forward to meeting my MESCI classmates and lecturers!VALENCIA
