ISOLA Francesca
Hi everyone! My name is Francesca Isola and I'm from Sardinia, a beautiful italian island. I moved to Rome in order to attend MESCI's programme. I graduated in University of Cagliari in 'Economics and European Politics' and in 'Economic Sciences'.
Since I started my academic path in Economics, my goal - but also my dream - has been continue to study Development Economics. During my Bachelor and Master degrees in Cagliari, I had the possibility of learning a lot about Economic Growth and Development Economics. In particulary, I had the opportunity of studying, doing research and working personally on different paper's research on topics like human capital, political instability and other development's issues, which economic's literature considers important determinants of growth. The field I'm most interested in is definitely education and feminine human capital, especially in Developing countries. That's why my final thesis of Master's degree is about this topic and in particulary about the positive role the feminine human capital has in increasing GDP per capita, and the educational gender gap all over the world. It could be really important to understand these kind of phenomena for growth, and especially for the social and economic development of developing countries. As Lucas (1988) wrote, once you start thinking about these kind of issues, it's really difficult to stop thinking about them. That's why I decided I chose the MESCI's programme: I'd like to improve my knowledge and my skills in Development Economics topics. I believe that MESCI could be a perfect addition to the experience I have already obtained and, most of all, in a highly international and multidisciplinary enviroment. So I consider it being a most valuable experience to get the opportunity to meet students from all over the world and learning about their cultures, norms and values. I really would like to improve in professional field but also like a human being, and in my opinion the best way to improve is learning from the others, because every person you meet along your way can teach you something you didn't know yet. I am confident that this programme could bring me one step closer to achieve my dream of becoming a good economist.
